About the Frames

Society Hill is one of the original neighborhoods of Philly. In colonial times, the wealthy and the poor lived together in Society Hill. The rich got sick of having the poor so close to them so they moved westward. Once the affluent left Society Hill, it became a slum. By the 1950’s, Philly’s city planner Ed Bacon (Kevin Bacon’s dad) made Society Hill the centerpiece of Philly’s first gentrification project. The gentrification project was an unqualified success, as the poor were forced out and the rich happily returned to beautifully restored 18 th century dwellings and a neighborhood free of those who had less money. Today Society Hill is a lovely neighborhood that is home to Society Hill Towers- designed by I.M. Pei, not Lou Kahn- and an upscale Israeli restaurant owned by a prominent chef who also sells fried chicken and donuts. God Bless The Rich!
